It’s curious when you examine and appreciate how art (exceptional art that is) seems to mirror life. Or perhaps those reflections are the other way around. Whichever the case may be, Tolkien had a piercing acumen at discerning the paradoxical state of the human condition, paralleled in the translative alchemy of his writings.

Perhaps that’s why in the allegorical context of looking at these times we’re living in, I can see the non-fictional applicability of meaning in the quote I referenced above of Tolkien’s fictional character.

That definitely goes without saying. I’m 48 years old. I’m old enough to remember watching the moon landing on an old black and white Zenith in the living room of an upstairs apartment where my Mom and I were living at the time in Lincoln, Nebraska. I remember too when Sunday night tv started with Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom hosted by Marlin Perkins, followed up then by The Wonderful World of Disney. Most of the vintage programs on TV Land today, I can recall back when they were still in their prime on prime time way back when. Gilligan’s Island, I Dream Of Jeannie, and Star Trek during the entire 3 years of its cut short 5 year mission to boldly go where no man has gone before…Just to list off a few of my favorites.

Ok, so now that I’ve sufficiently dated myself…The world has in sooth changed dramatically since those days. If there were one thing we could use to reference that change we’ve experienced just in our own lifetimes, I think the best sliding scale we could have at our disposal is television programming over these past 50 years by which to define our perceived decline! But the world as they say is just the stage upon which this tragic comedy we call ‘us’ plays out. The ground beneath our feet and the sun above our heads are about the only constants…Well, apart from death and taxes anyway.

But we’ve all played a supporting role, consciously or not, in this change. With television only being a mirror of sorts we can look into. I know for me, looking back at the younger man I was once is almost like looking back on the life of a complete stranger now. Living and learning is all we can do, and if we’re smart enough to survive, it’s generally because sometimes the hardest lessons are the best instructors!

I feel that way about our Country at times. Sure, we can remember how things use to be in the bygone years of our own lifetimes. Yet those who were here in the beginning of our Nations birth- those men who fought, bled, sacrificed, and gave over to posterity, a Country we can call our home- are all long gone. All we have left are their echos. I wonder how their hearts would interpret what their eyes would see if they could see their Country now?

Especially when you consider this autocratic political ruling class of privileged elitists we have in Washington today, running our Nation literally into the ground! They’ve essentially disemboweled our Government and cannibalized it into quite the lucrative racket for themselves at the expense of the American peoples labors and complacent acquiescence.

But lets move along on this tour…look at this destination where we’ve arrived at tho’. We had Obama (not merely being content with his shredding our Constitution, socializing healthcare, devastating our military, and subjugating the peoples 2nd Amendment Right – NOW he’s going after the peoples favorite American past time), opining to the cameras earlier about not being sure if he had a son if he’d let him play football! Ok, hit the brakes on this one! He’s not “sure” if he’d let his son play football?? So schools need the parents consent for them to play football?? But yet schools can give out abortion pills to girls without the parents consent! Refer to the link below if you think I jest…

……………..Sorry! I was having another “no words for it” moment there for a second! Then we have this little nugget making the rounds on Facebook too….

Here’s a little salt to rub into your open wound while we’re at it…

It’s 3:20 in the morning right now, and I’ve since begun a losing fight to try and keep my eyes open, so I’m going to leave you with these parting words from Alan Keyes (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alan_Keyes) expressing his opinion on this charlatan in our White House, dating back from February 19, 2009, but which still resonate powerfully today. Good night and God bless folks!
