It was 12 degrees Farenheit out this morning. Those with electric heat are watching their meters spinning out of control. A disabled vet friend of mine told me that his last electric bill was over $600.00, and he was stressing about it.
I am sure that there are a lot of other vets, disabled or not, who are experiencing the same thing. Many are young, and just got back from overseas, and many have new families. Some are still looking for jobs. Many of them rent, and there is no guarantee that their rentals are well insulated.
There is help out there for vets with bills. I searched “Electric bills disabled veteran help Pennsylvania.” I am including some of the links I found below. This search can work for any State. And you can can substitute “elderly” or “poor” or “low-income” for “disabled veteran” in the search term.
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE share this information with any friend or acquaintance or relative who may need assistance. It is available for food and rent, too. Many of these are charitable and private ventures. Make sure that they money available is going to those who need and deserve it most. Many are not even aware that some of these resources exist, as up until now, they were self-sufficient.
